Walis Bokan is a fierce warrior and native of Emerald Island, a relatively temperate land mass that resembles a tropical paradise next to the surrounding ice with its inexplicably lush environment. There Walis Bokan once lived the life of his ancestors, and no doubt would still if not for Phaethon's disastrous arrival.
Phaethon brought "civilization" to the island like a cataclysmic hurricane. Some resisted. Some fled. Most were enslaved and forbidden from the traditions of their ancestors. Walis belongs to the former, one of few holdouts to resist the invaders unto exile. There he still cherishes a hope that one day, even if it seems impossible, his people may yet be free.
Walis Bokan's father was a legendary warrior, his father's father was a legendary Warrior too. And for Walis, is already, or shall be, a legendary warrior with no doubt.\nWalis Bokan's face was already tattooed with the stripes of the warrior way by his teenage years, a mark of great honor among fellow tribesmen. But their skills with the traditional weapons of their ancestors would be sorely tested against Phaethon's far superior force. Technology may tilt the scales in Phaethon's favour, yet by sheer bravery and determination even Walis Bokan has made himself quite the thorn in Phaethon's side.
Phaethon's initial invasion went so poorly their commanders were rather perplexed about what to do. The terrain was difficult to navigate and locals were not exactly pacifists. The solution employed was a time-tested stroke of genius: Phaethon allied itself with disaffected factions in Emerald Island society and tried to fan the flames of internal discord in any way possible with plenty of bribery. Eventually, the defenders' unity wilted, and into the cracks of their society poured Phaethon's soldiers with gleeful abandon.
Walis Bokan and his fellow warriors suffered setback after setback as more and more islanders joined the overwhelming invaders. Exile or death beckoned. But Walis Bokan did not want to die. His people's future could be better served by keeping the faint hope of reclaiming their land alive.
Some time passed before Phaethon's true objectives became clear. Legend told of a mysterious "Rainbow Bridge" located on the island, supposedly responsible for the island's unusually warm weather. The mere rumor of such an artifact alone was promise enough to launch Phaethon's invasion, but exactly what the structure or entity was remained a mystery.
Phaethon tried every known method, cruelty, slavery, and the dishonoring of locals' sacred relics to uncover the secret behind the island's warmth. But it was to no avail. Not only did Phaethon's experiments fail to generate any meaningful data on the so-called Rainbow Bridge, the destruction of the local ecosystem also began to cool the island down in line with its icy surroundings. This has added a layer of desperation to Walis Bokan's struggle: not only must he strike back for vengeance, but also to save what remains saving of his precious paradise.
